A successful Twitter marketing strategy involves interacting and having
conversations with other Twitter users as opposed to using Twitter
solely as a broadcasting tool. There is, therefore, little point in
maintaining a Twitter account for your business if no one follows you.
Running a marketing campaign on Twitter that includes a giveaway is an
effective way of increasing your company’s followers. Several steps can
help you leverage the giveaway as a means of growing your follower base.
Step 1Make following your account a requirement for entering the giveaway.

Ask followers to
retweet your message about the giveaway to enter the contest. Each time
someone retweets your message, it goes out to all the Twitter users who
follow that person. Retweets, therefore, can mean increased exposure for
your brand and greater likelihood that your followers’ followers will
start following you.
Step 3Specify that
entering the giveaway is a quick and simple process in any materials
promoting the campaign, such as your blog posts or marketing emails.
Step 4Come up with a
hashtag representing the campaign and encourage users to incorporate it
into their tweets when talking about the giveaway. A hashtag consists of
the “#” symbol (without quotation marks) followed by a keyword or
phrase that helps categorize Tweets by topic.

- A clever or funny hashtag that showcases brand personality is an effective way of sparking users’ interest, encouraging those who are not familiar with your brand to follow you.
- You can also use existing hashtags that are trending as long as they are relevant.

- Having users take numerous and/or complicated actions to enter may discourage them from following your account.
- Don't use too many hashtags in a given tweet; two is usually plenty.
