Micromax A116 Canvas HD, Cheapest Quad Core

Micromax A116 Canvas HD

Micromax A116 Canvas HD is spotted in an YouTube video published by Intellect Digest. The device looks fabulous. It’s the white color model that once again resembles premium smartphones like Galaxy S3. The back panel is more curvy this time as compared to canvas 2. As you already know it’s the quad core dog you have been waiting for. We though it’s Canvas 3. Finally, it’s revealed as Canvas HD. It comes with 5 inch HD display instead of WVGA display seen in Canvas 2. Display quality of Canvas 2 is good although display ppi is just 196. So one thing for sure, Canvas HD will be more sharper and better. Higher ppi 294 in fact and 720×1280 pixels resolution are mind blowing for a smartphone that is priced Rs. 15,000. It’s the MRP of the product. You will get it available in around 13-13.5k.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD comes with MediaTek MT6589 SoC. The chip couples quad ARM Cortex A7 application processor cores and PowerVR SGX544 GPU in 28 nm fabrication technology. Also the RAM is 1 GB which ensures better performance. In the video you can see the reviewer is swapping between screens effortlessly. In rear panel 8 MP camera is there. Front facing VGA camera is there as well. So, the camera unit is unchanged. No news on camera add-on. Instead of two single LED flash is there. I do not think the camera will deliver surprising results.

Two physical keys are there; volume rockers and power/lock button. On the top panel micro USB port and 3.5 mm audio jack are there. All these are inspired from Canvas 2. Design and looks of Micromax A116 Canvas HD is brilliant. The rear panel comes with matte like finishing which is bit glossy. I thought rubberized finishing but it’s not the case here. Display is 5 inch which is pretty big indeed. IPS LCD type display enhances viewing angles as compared to TFT LCD. Everything is alright about display but I have not heard of any scratch resistant Gorilla Glass coating as of now. It’s very necessary. In Canvas 2 Micromax have used AGC Sodaline coating instead of Gorilla Glass. It’s poor, no doubt about that. In Canvas HD Gorilla Glass is very much required. Also a dedicated pouch or case must be supplied with the handset.

Micromax A116 Canvas HD sports 5 inch display with HD 720p resolution. This is very impressive in deed. Currently we are passing through plenty of full HD display smartphones. HTC Butterfly with full HD 5 inch display is coming soon in market at staggering Rs. 49k MRP. However, we need not worry about this as Micromax is settled down the price to Rs 15,000.

The phablet equips 1 GB RAM. Possibly the ROM size will be 4 GB once again. Micro SD is not any surprise so as 2100 mAh battery. One more thing in this regard, the SoC has support of HSPA. So we can expect at least 14.4 Mbps HSDPA speed instead of 7.2 Mbps HSDPA. Up link or HSUPA will remain the same at 5.76 Mbps. And the ambient light sensor that is missing in Canvas 2 will be there in Micromax A116 Canvas HD.
