Introduction

Innovations have re-shaped the education landscape in recent years. Education technology has made things easier for parents, teachers, and students. This technology has affected the education landscape significantly. Today learning is more fun than it used to be a few decades ago. Technology is a major tool that has helped to increase teacher-student engagement. This article will define education technology, its disadvantages as well as `advantages you wanted to know.

What is Education Technology?

Education technology (also known as edtech) can be defined as an ethical practice and study of improving performance and facilitating learning using technological resources and processes. Almost all educators agree that technology has revolutionized learning and teaching process.

Ways How Edtech has Changed Education Landscape

iPad Programs

Education has changed the classroom setting to make it more lively and fun. The backpacks are now lighter courtesy to the introduction of iPads in classrooms. These iPads help students to consolidate their learning materials in one place while remaining lighter and efficient.

Education technology also helps students comprehend concepts better because of the visual presentation in the form of videos or projections that are availed to them.

EBooks are on the Rise

Traditional teaching methods embraced the use of textbooks to make students grasp fundamental concepts. But nowadays, eBooks are becoming more common in the classroom environment. Students will not be required to carry heavy backpacks full of textbooks in the future.

No more Writing of Notes

How Telemedicine is Changing Healthcare-GlobalMed

How Telemedicine is Changing Healthcare

In recent decades, telemedicine has become one of the leading service delivery models in healthcare. Creating an opportunity for physicians to reach patients around the world, telemedicine is changing the way hospitals, clinics and private practices impact those who need them most.

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine is the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients via technology. Using video connection, examination cameras and telephone conferencing, physicians are able to serve patients around the globe. The latest technology allows physicians to examine patients as reliably as they would face-to-face.

Originally designed to assist patients in remote locations who were unable to access healthcare in their area, telemedicine created an opportunity for people around the globe to access the care that they need. Prior to telemedicine, millions of individuals in the United States and throughout the world were without access to any healthcare, resulting in widespread suffering. Servicing individuals in remote areas is still a major focus of telehealth today. However, the benefits of this platform expand much further, increasing the outcomes of care for both patients and physicians.

Telemedicine is the Future

-  Improved Efficiency

The use of telemedicine significantly improves the efficiency of healthcare for all parties, including patients and healthcare organizations. Telemedicine is the most time effective type of service delivery simply because patients do not have to take the time to travel to a hospital or clinic. Instead, patients are able to interact with their physician in the comfort of their homes, without having to go through the unnecessary hassle of getting to and from the appointment. For those with conditions that make it difficult or impossible to travel without special accommodations, telemedicine is giving these patients the peace of mind that they can receive care without the stress. Time is also saved without the wait that most people dread prior to any doctor's appointment or hospital stay.

-  Comfort & Privacy

There is nothing more comfortable than being in a place that you feel safe and secure. As much as healthcare organizations can attempt to make their practices feel relaxing and serene, most the time patients end up feeling uneasy. Telemedicine allows patients to receive the care that they need wherever is most pleasant for them. There is also an increased level of privacy using telemedicine, as patients can choose where they would like to be seen. Especially in hospitals and practices where patients are seen in close quarters, having a sense of privacy is a major benefit to telemedicine.

-  More Appointments, Less Cancellations

Because patients can be seen when and where is most convenient for them, doctors receive fewer cancellations and reschedule using telemedicine. Not only does this improve the efficiency of the office, but it opens up time for physicians to see more patients. By keeping a schedule without last-minute cancellations, physicians are able to stay on track to see the maximum number of appointments possible.

Who Can Use Telemedicine?

Telemedicine can be used for a variety of patients with a range of needs. Some common applications of telemedicine include:

● Chronic Diseases: Patients with chronic diseases need to be seen by a physician regularly. The management of chronic diseases is made simple, as patients can easily connect with their doctor without the hassle of a conventional appointment.

● Follow-Up Visits: Instead of having to come back for an additional follow-up visit, patients are more likely to check in with their physician.

● Prevention Care: Telemedicine allows patients to connect with doctors to discuss and plan preventative strategies for conditions like smoking, weight loss, diabetes and more.

● Geriatric Support: For those in need of assisted living and frequent check-ups, physicians can be on call in case of an emergency at a moment’s notice.

Telemedicine is changing healthcare for the better, increasing the quality of care for patients across the globe.

How to Build a Resume Website That Will Impress Every Hiring Manager Who Sees It

There are plenty of good reasons to have your own website—if you want to build your online brand, for example, or start a side project.

But for most of you reading this, the reason you want to create a website is because you want to get a job, and you know a sleek highlighting your experience could help you stand out from other candidates—or even help a hiring manager find you to fill a position.

And while you could just copy and paste your resume onto a web page, the online possibilities really are endless, so why not go big or go home?

Don’t worry, though; this doesn’t have to take weeks of your life. If you want to turn your resume into a website that impresses, try one of the strategies below—all of which can be done with no coding knowledge and very little time using website building tools like Squarespace.

Strategy 1: Link to Your Resume From a Landing Page

The easiest and fastest way to get your resume on the web is to create a simple but beautiful [single page website] Like this: http://www.eringreenawald.com/single-page-test

There are a couple benefits to this approach. First, if you have a resume you’re proud of, the bulk of the work is already done—all you have to do is write a short bio for the landing page, pick a photo that represents you or your work, and put it all together. (We’ve laid out how to build this site itself in an hour or less here.) So you’re still boosting your name in Google results without too much work on your end. You’re also giving hiring managers your resume in a form they’re very familiar with; they can download it, print it, share it with other team members, and more pretty easily.

The biggest downside of putting your resume on the web this way is that search engines can’t read PDFs, so if a hiring manager happened to be Googling for someone with your experience, they wouldn’t necessarily be able to find you. Combat this by including keywords related to your industry and highlighting important skills in the bio text on your landing page, as well as optimizing other on-site SEO features.

Strategy 2: Create a Page for Each Section of Your Resume

This method will take a little extra work, but it will result in a more full-blown (that’s fully searchable!). I’ve created a sample site here using a portion of my resume:
Basically, you’re going to transform each section of your resume into a page on your website. So, your home page might be akin to an objective or summary statement—giving visitors a high-level overview of who you are, what you do, and what you’re looking for. Then, you’ll create a page for your experience, your skills, your education, your achievements, even your hobbies if you want to share a little of your personality—each of which will show up in your site menu, making it easy for hiring managers to find the information they’re looking for.

For the text on each page, start by copying and pasting the text from your resume—but then think of ways to style or bulk it up to look a little nicer on the web. This could range from putting the name of each company you’ve worked for in a header font that stands out to using icons to visualize each of your skills. And don’t forget to add links to companies you’ve worked with and projects you’ve worked on when applicable—this is meant to be more dynamic than your paper resume.

Also consider ways to make each page feel a little more cohesive and stand-alone. This might mean having a beautiful image related to the work that you do at the top. Or, you could include a short summary before diving into the bullet points and specifics.

No matter how you go about styling each page, you want to make sure hiring managers can reach out once they see how awesome you are. So, don’t forget to make a page with your contact information and social profiles as well, and include a button at the bottom of all of the other pages directing people there.

Strategy 3: Turn Your Website Into a Multimedia Timeline of Your Work History

This last method will take the most work—but if you’re really looking for your site to help you stand out, it may just do the job. Similar to LinkedIn, you’re going to create a single-page, reverse-chronological timeline of your work history—but this one will be souped up with multimedia elements and designed to be extra beautiful. See the sample site here!

Start by picking a website template that lets you create one long, scrolling page with different sections, also known as an index (we love Alex and Pacific from Squarespace.

Then, starting from your most recent work experience to your least, create a section for each place you’ve worked. Feel free to throw relevant volunteer work, side projects, or other personal achievements into the timeline if you want—just make sure to keep it all in order so someone is scrolling through your professional past as they go down your page.

As you’re building out each section, start with your standard bullet points explaining what you did, but then think of ways to add a little oomph. Maybe that’s adding testimonial pull quotes from bosses or co-workers at past jobs. If you have a particularly visual job, you could add a mini portfolio to each role, using a gallery to show specific examples of your work at that company. You could add infographic elements showing off your achievements, videos of speaking gigs you did, a stream of tweets or Instagrams you helped produce—the possibilities are endless (and the right thing for you is going to vary by industry), so get creative!

And, again, you want to make sure people can reach out to you, so include you contact information somewhere on the page—or even in the header so it’s front and center and easy to find.

Once you have your ready to go, don’t be afraid to share it! Add the URL to your paper resume, your LinkedIn profile, your social media accounts, really anywhere recruiters or hiring managers could potentially find you.

10 Ways to Search Google for Information That 96% of People Don’t Know About

10 Ways to Search Google for Information That 96% of People Don’t Know About

In our era of advanced technology and high-speed Internet connections, you can find information on virtually anything. In the space of just a few minutes, we can find recipes for the tastiest pie or learn all about the theory of wave-particle duality.
But more often than not, we have to sift through a vast body of knowledge to get the information we need, and this can take hours rather than minutes.

1. Either this or that

Sometimes we’re not sure that we’ve correctly remembered the information or the name we need to start our search. But this doesn’t have to be a problem! Simply put in a few potential variations of what you’re looking for, and separate them by typing the “|“ symbol. Instead of this symbol you can also use ”or." Then it’s easy enough to choose the result that makes the most sense.

2. Searching using synonyms

Our language is rich in synonyms. Sometimes this can be very convenient when doing research online. If you need to find websites on a given subject rather than those that include a specific phrase, add the "~" symbol to your search.
For example, if you search for the term "healthy ~food" you’ll get results about the principles of healthy eating, cooking recipes, as well as healthy dining options.

3. Searching within websites

Sometimes you read an interesting article on a website and find yourself subsequently wanting to share it with your friends or simply reread it. The easiest way to find the desired piece of information again is to search within the website. To do this, type the address of the site, then a key word or entire phrase from the article, and it should come up immediately.

4. The power of the asterisk

When our cunning memory decides to prevent us from recalling that one key word, phrase, or number we need in order to find what we’re looking for, you can turn to the powerful "*" symbol. Just use this in the place of the word/phrase you can’t remember, and you should be able to find the results you’re looking for.

5. When lots of words are missing

If it’s the lengthier half of the phrase you can’t remember rather than a single key word, try writing out the first and last words and putting “AROUND + (the approximate number of missing words)“ between them. For example, ”I wandered AROUND(4) cloud."

6. Using a time frame

Sometimes we urgently need to acquaint ourselves with events that occurred during a certain period of time. To do so, you can add a time frame to your search query with the help of three dots between the dates. For example, if we want to find out about scientific discoveries during the 20th century, we can write:

7. Searching for a title or URL

To help find the key words and name of an article, type “intitle:“ before the search term, without any spaces between them. In order to find the words from a URL, use ”inurl:".

8. Finding similar websites

If you’ve found something you really like online and want to find similar websites, type in "related:" and then the address of the site, again without a space between them.

9. Whole phrases

Framing the search term within quotation marks is the simplest and most effective way to find something specific and in the exact order you typed it in.
For example, if you type in the words I’m picking up good vibrations without quotation marks, the search engine will show the results where these words appear in any order on a website, as opposed to the specific order in which you typed them.
If, on the other hand, you type "I’m picking up good vibrations" within quotation marks, you’ll get only those results where these words appear only in the order you typed them in. This is a great way to find the lyrics to a song when you only know one line from it.

10. Unimportant search words

To remove unimportant search words from your query, simply write a minus symbol before each one. For example, if you want to find a site about interesting books, but you aren’t looking to buy them, you can write the following:

What is the future of technology in education?

Forget devices, the future of education technology is all about the cloud and anywhere access. In the future, teaching and learning is going to be social.

A couple of weeks ago I was asked what I thought the future of technology in education was. It is a really interesting question and one that I am required to think about all the time. By its very nature, technology changes at a fast pace and making it accessible to pupils, teachers and other stakeholders is an ongoing challenge.

So what is the future? Is it the iPad?

No, I don't think it is. For me, the future is not about one specific device. Don't get me wrong, I love the iPad. In fact, I have just finished a trial to see if using them really does support teaching and learning – and they have proved effective. I've written about the trial in more detail on my blog.

iPads and other mobile technology are the 'now'. Although, they will play a part in the future, four years ago the iPad didn't even exist. We don't know what will be the current technology in another four. Perhaps it will be wearable devices such as Google Glass, although I suspect that tablets will still be used in education.

The future is about access, anywhere learning and collaboration, both locally and globally. Teaching and learning is going to be social. Schools of the future could have a traditional cohort of students, as well as online only students who live across the country or even the world. Things are already starting to move this way with the emergence of massive open online courses (MOOCs).

For me the future of technology in education is the cloud.

Technology can often be a barrier to teaching and learning. I think the cloud will go a long way to removing this barrier. Why? By removing the number of things that can go wrong.
Schools, will only need one major thing to be prepared for the future. They will not need software installed, servers or local file storage. Schools will need a fast robust internet connection. Infrastructure is paramount to the the future of technology in education.

We don't know what the new 'in' device will be in the future. What we do know, is that it will need the cloud. Schools and other educational institutions will need to futureproof their infrastructure the best they can.

This should be happening now. If you want to start to use mobile technology in your school, whether it is an iPad program or a bring your own device (BYOD) program your connectivity must be fast and reliable. Student and teacher buy in, is so important. If the network is slow and things are not working properly students and teachers will not want to use the devices. Make the sure the infrastructure is there before the devices.

Teachers can use the cloud to set, collect and grade work online. Students will have instant access to grades, comments and work via a computer, smartphone or tablet. Many schools are already doing this. Plus, services such as the educational social network Edmodo offer this for free.

This is where devices come in. All devices, not matter which ones we will use in the future will need to access the cloud. Each student will have their own. Either a device specified by the school or one they have chosen to bring in themselves.

School classrooms are going to change. Thanks to the cloud and mobile devices, technology will be integrated into every part of school. In fact, it won't just be the classrooms that will change. Games fields, gyms and school trips will all change. Whether offsite or on site the school, teachers, students and support staff will all be connected. In my ideal world, all classrooms will be paperless.

With the cloud, the world will be our classroom. E-learning will change teaching and learning. Students can learn from anywhere and teachers can teach from anywhere.

The cloud can also encourage independent learning. Teachers could adopt a flipped classroom approach more often. Students will take ownership of their own learning. Teachers can put resources for students online for students to use. These could be videos, documents, audio podcasts or interactive images. All of these resources can be accessed via a student's computer, smartphone or tablet. As long as they have an internet connection either via Wifi, 3G or 4G they are good to go.

Rather than being 'taught' students can learn independently and in their own way. There is also a massive amount of resources online that students can find and use themselves, without the help of the teacher.

This of course means the role of the teacher will change.

Shared applications and documents on the cloud, such as Google Apps will allow for more social lessons. How often do students get an opportunity to collaborate productively using technology in the classroom? It isn't always easy. However, students working on documents together using Google Apps is easy. They could be in the same room or in different countries. These are all good skills for students to have. Of course, these collaborative tools are also very useful for teachers. I for one have worked on several projects where these tools have lets me work with people across the country. Some of which I have never met.

What we must remember is that when schools adopt new technology and services, they must be evaluated. This way, as a school, you know if they are successful and what improvements are needed. Staff will also need training, you can't expect staff to use new technology if it they are not confident users or creators. Any initiative is doomed to failure without well trained, confident staff who can see how technology can support and benefit teaching and learning.

Plenty of schools have already embraced this, but there's still a way to go to ensure all schools are ready for the future of technology. It is time for all schools to embrace the cloud.

Has Technology Caused Society To Progress Or Regress?

Since technology is such a major entity in society, I feel that having a conversation about its effects will be an ongoing conversation. Technology is constantly changing right before our eyes and it’s up to us, the recipients of these changes, to either accept them or voice our dissent on them.

Me personally, I have mixed feelings about the effects of technology because everything has its pros and its cons. 20 or 30 years ago, you might’ve walked into a room and seen cell phones that looked like land lines without cords and they had antennas sticking up. Now, you see phones that can be used as mini computers and they can be unlocked using a fingerprint.

This an example of a technological advancement. Another example is the shift from only stationary computers to the option of stationary computers or laptops. Ultimately, it all boils down to what’s convenient, what will sell, and what’s within our range of resources, although we are discovering new uses of various resources every day. However, one question remains: is this progression into a Utopian society or regression into a dysfunctional, disconnected society that’s getting further and further away from emotion?

The latest in technology news reveals that the iPhone 7 might be sans headphone jack. Someone must have thought it was a “hassle” to deal with headphone cords, which is why they came up with this idea. In my opinion, this is actually pretty ridiculous for several reasons. First of all, the cord on the headphones alleviates the stress of losing headphones because they can stay connected to the phone. Then, in the image above, the headphones are pictured very small, which makes them easier to lose.

So, if this is Apple’s next technological advancement, I say they should rethink it. What someone might’ve thought would be convenient could actually create an even bigger problem. One con of technology is that it attempts to solve society’s problems yet creates even more. A prime example is the way cell phones gave us the ability to talk to someone across the world yet those “crack berries” (in the words of a former art professor) inhibit us from connecting to someone across the room.

Social media developed a new way to consume media yet became a playground for prejudiced, misogynistic, and/or homophobic people to express their troubling beliefs and mislabel it “free speech.” To every advancement, there is a down side. Perhaps such is the thread of life, though. Technology has its cons, yet it’s undeniable that it has had a lasting effect on the way that we are able to communicate, which is not a minor thing. We’ll just have to work on the way technology is manipulated and then maybe, just maybe, we’ll be one step closer toward this futuristic, Utopian society we strive to become.

5 Ways You Can Keep Up With Technology

Personally, I sometimes feel that I am unable to keep up with current technology. On the other hand, it’s not entirely my fault as well.
