Instagram, which is now owned by Facebook, announced that it had reached the milestone of 100 million monthly active users in a long blog post on February 26.
Instagram was purchased a year ago by Facebook for a reported $1 billion and has seen steady growth since. A proposed change to the user agreement back in December that would have given Instagram commercial rights to users' images provoked a swift backlash.
Many threatened to leave the photo sharing site and feared losing ownership of their images, but Instagram was quick to react, claiming that the commercial ownership of users' images was never its intention and swiftly modifying and simplifying the terms of service.
Despite this PR hiccup, Tuesday's announcement seems to suggest that smartphone users are still flocking to the service.
