Samsung Galaxy S4 Flip Cover Hands-On Video

Samsung offers several Samsung Galaxy S4 cases that will arrive with the Galaxy S4 later this month, and while we wait for the device to arrive on Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.

The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Flip Cover comes in multiple colors and offers front and rear protection for the Galaxy S4 for $35 to $40.

Moblle Fun sent over the official Samsung Galaxy S4 case in black and in white for us to get an early look at. The retailer offers a collection of Galaxy S4 cases including seven colors of the Galaxy S4 flip cover.

Unlike most smartphone cases, and a majority of third-party Samsung Galaxy S4 cases, the official Galaxy S4 Flip Cover doesn’t add bulk to the phone. Rather than fitting over the phone’s existing case, users remove the back of the Galaxy S4 and snap the Flip Cover on in its place. The result is a case that becomes part of the phone.

This is the same design as the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 Flip Cover cases, and its one even minimalist users can appreciate.

Here we take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy S4 Flip Cover cases in white and black. While we don’t have a GalaxY S4 to snap them on to, we show off the looks and how they compare to the Galaxy S3.
These official Galaxy S4 Flip Cover cases are made of the same strong plastic material as the back of the Galaxy S4. Both of these cases also feature the same dotted design as the Galaxy S4 backs we saw during our Galaxy S4 hands on in New York City last month. Unfortunately these are just as much of a fingerprint magnet as the standard back

So far it doesn’t look like users will be able to pair these cases with the upcoming Galaxy S4 wireless charging kit, which also replaces the back of the device to work. Likewise, it’s not clear if this case will work with any extended Galaxy S4 batteries.

The official Galaxy S4 flip cover gets its name from the semi-rigid cover that protects the phone while in a pocket or from a fall and flips around while in use. Flip cases don’t appeal to all users, but this one feels better than most flip around cases. It helps that Samsung builds the cover into the side of the phone when installed, making the fold more natural.

The inside of the flip cover is a soft, felt-like material that offers a nicer feel then plastic while using the phone. The cover stays closed fairly well, and when open and placed on a flat surface the hinge is loose enough that it will not spring over and flip the phone.

Even though Samsung only offers the Galaxy S4 in two colors, users can change all outward facing colors of the Galaxy S4 with a case. The image below shows how easily it is to customize an orange Samsung Galaxy S4.

Thanks to a multitude of colors, users can get a pink Samsung Galaxy S4 for about $35 extra. The only portion that remains unchanged is the front bezel. Users looking for a transformation may want to get the white Galaxy S4 as it blends better with most colors.

Samsung announced a variety of Samsung Galaxy S4 accessories at the launch event, many of which are highlighted in the video below.
Samsung offers an official Galaxy S-View Flip Cover which includes a small see through section that shows the date, time and notifications while the case is closed. Samsung also offers an official protective Galaxy S4 case in multiple colors.
