After announcing the new phones in the Galaxy S4 series individually, Samsung has today showcased the S4 Mini, the S4 Active and the S4 Zoom at the Samsung Premier 2013 event at London. These phones are unveiled along with Samsung ATIV Q convertible tablet and the NX camera which comes with interchangeable lens.
The mini variant of the S4 comes with a 4.3-inch qHD super AMOLED
display, and has a 1.7GHz dual-core processor supported by 1.5GB of RAM.
There is 8GB of internal storage in the phone which can be expanded up
to 64GB through the microSD slot. It features an 8-megapixel rear camera
and 1.9-megapixel camera on front. On connectivity front, it features
Wi-Fi 5.0GHz a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS,and NFC which will be
available on LTE version only. The phone will also come with IR LED
which would help the phone double up as a remote control. On software
front, the phone will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, the latest from
the Google. And then there will be a 1,900 mAh battery.
The other phone unveiled is the Galaxy S4 Active which the company
claims will be known for its durability as it will be a rather rugged
version of the Galaxy S4.The phone is 9.1mm thick and is 153g in weight.
It is a IP67 certified product so it can protect against dirt and is
water resistant. The water resistance will work for 30 minutes under 1m
of depth and will be able to survive extreme dusty conditions of a
desert. The touch screen won’t work under water but the camera will work
as the volume rockers act as shutter buttons and it has a software
‘Aqua Mode’. For other actions, Samsung has dumped capacitive keys for
hardware buttons.
In terms of features, the phone will come with a 5-inch HD TFT
display converting to 443 ppi along with Glove Touch technology. The
phone will be powered by a 1.9GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core
processor paired with 2GB of RAM and will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly
Bean. There will be an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash,
2-megapixel secondary camera, and on memory front it will have 16GB of
internal storage supplemented by a microSD card that supports up to 64GB
of storage. In terms of connectivity, it features 3G, Wi-Fi ac, Wi-Fi
Direct, IrDA, NFC, USB 2.0, and Bluetooth 4.0. The phone will house a
2,600mAh battery.
Last but not the least is the S4 Zoom which is sort of a lovechild of
the Galaxy Camera and the Galaxy S4 smartphone. Galaxy S4 Zoom will
come with a 4.3-inch sAMOLED qHD display offering 960×540 pixels
resolution. It will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor paired
with 1.5GB of RAM and will run on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean just like
the other two models. The phone will measure 15.4mm thick due to its
huge 16-megapixel camera sensor that offers 10x of optical zoom.
Considering that the camera will be the USP of the phone, the back of
the phone will sport a 16-megapixel snapper with 10x optical zoom and
built-in optical image stabilization (OIS). The front will have a
1.9-megapixel camera. This apart there will be 8GB of internal memory
that can be expanded up to 64GB. On connectivity front, there will be
support for 3G or LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. The phone
will feature a 2,330mAh battery.
It also incorporates a number of features from the Galaxy Camera like
Smart shoot that adds a number of modes to the interface. An unique
feature allows users to share images during a call with the caller.
Users can also use the zoom ring to manipulate a dial like UI that pops
up on the screen.
