Looks like leading Indian smartphone maker Micromax is readying new smartphones for launch soon. Two new smartphones - Canvas Doodle 2 and Canvas Fun
- were spotted on Flipkart, but there’s no information about the price
of either of the phones. However, we do have detailed specifications to
share.
Let’s begin with the Canvas Doodle 2 or A240, which had leaked earlier and is being promoted by the company on Facebook recently. While the teasers didn’t tell us what specs to expect, the retailer listing shows that the Doodle 2 will have a 5.7-inch IPS HD display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution. Once again it will be the 1.2GHz quad-core chipset ticking inside a Micromax phone, but there’s no mention of whether this will be a MediaTek MT6589 like other Canvas phones. Our guess is that it is the MediaTek processor. The phone borrows a lot of its styling and design elements from the recently launched Canvas 4, including the metal trim on the edges.

Doodle 2 has a more polished look than the Canvas 4
The Doodle 2 will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and the image listed
shows Micromax’s reviled Blow to Unlock feature first seen on the
Canvas 4. There’s a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel
front-facing shooter, both carried over from the Canvas 4 specs sheet.
There’s a large 2600 mAh battery and the Doodle 2 will come with 12GB of
internal storage.
The Canvas Fun is a low-end Jelly Bean phone
The next smartphone to be listed is the low-end Canvas Fun which
also has a large display but a low powered SoC. There’s a 5-inch display
with FWVGA resolution (480x854 pixels), which hints at the low-end
nature of this phone. The processor is a dual-core 1.2GHz one, but
there’s no mention of the maker. We reckon it’s the MediaTek MT6572 is
the world's first dual-core SoC with integrated Wi-Fi, FM, GPS and
Bluetooth. This particular processor has caught the fancy of Indian
smartphone makers lately and reduces the cost of production by a huge
margin. The Canvas Fun will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. There’s a
5-megapixel primary camera and a 0.3-megapixel front camera. Thankfully,
there’s a large 2000 mAh battery and considering the specs, this phone
could easily last the entire day on a charge.
