There was a time when mobile wars were between two tech giants- Samsung VS Apple. There were news items almost every day of how one company sued the other over patents and other Intellectual Property Rights. The scene is slowly changing with a third competitor coming in to take in a strong position and become a powerful competitor to reckon with.

Xiaomi has now become the fastest selling phone in China and is the world’s third largest manufacturer of mobile phones. What helped this lean start up take such a giant leap is the fact that it was able to recreate affordable versions of high end phones manufactured by Samsung and Apple that quickly became popular in China and Xiaomi is now being dubbed as the Apple of China.

Their marketing strategy was simple which was to tie up with online retailers and sell budget phones with decent specifications through flash sales which really grabbed attention towards Quarter Four of 2014.
