After the Supreme Court's ban on sale and registration of BS III
vehicles from 1st April, vehicle makers were left with a shade under 9
lakh vehicles in stock. With most of them not upgradeable to BS IV
norms, companies are now selling these vehicles at heavily discounted
prices. Today, 31st March, however, is the only day when you can buy
these four-wheelers and two-wheelers. Tomorrow onwards, no BS III
vehicles will be registered. You also need to ensure that you have proof
of the sale transaction taking place on or before 31st March, else the
vehicle won't get registered anywhere in the country.
While most manufacturers with BS III vehicles in stock are offering
discounts, some companies and some dealerships are giving out offers
that make even the Diwali offers seem like change! Here's what you can
buy for how much and where.
Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has a sizeable stock of BS
III vehicles and hence the company is offering discounts in most parts
of the country. While in general, HMSI is offering discounts up to Rs
22,000 on some vehicles, a few dealerships are offering much higher
discounts. Even the country's leading scooter, Activa is selling at a
discount of Rs 15,000. The Navi can be bought for just about Rs 30,000
now and that too on-road. Similarly, even the larger CBR 250 and 150 are
being offered with heavy discounts. Some reports and dealer price-lists
circulating on social media are also claiming that the Navi is being
offered free with the CBR 250 and 150!
Hero MotoCorp too is
offering big discounts on its BS III scooters and motorcycles. Some
dealers are offering up to Rs 12,500 of discount on Duet, Maestro Edge,
Super Splendor and Glamour.
TVS Motor and its dealers to are left with a fair bit of BS III
vehicles' stock and they too are offering lucrative discounts. TVS
dealers are offering a maximum discount of up to Rs 20,150 on select
models. This, however, is what they're sharing even through commercials.
A visit to your nearest dealer might get you even more discount,
depending upon the amount of stock that dealer has. TVS dealers too are
offering discounts across the range, right from the XL100 to the
flagship motorcycle Apache RTR.
Mahindra dealers too are offering
heavy discounts on vehicles such as Bolero, Thar and Scorpio Getaway
along with Bolero Maxitruck. The BS III Thar is being sold at a discount
of Rs 76,000, while the Scorpio Getaway has lost Rs 90,000 off its
sticker price. Even the Bolero is being offered at a discount of Rs
90,000.
These discounted prices are only applicable for today and many
dealerships will remain open till midnight in order to get rid of as
much stock as possible. As the day progresses, dealers with higher
stocks might start offering even more discounts on top of what we just
shared. This, however, will need to be checked individually and just
chasing this idea could also result in losing a chance to buy a
discounted vehicle altogether.
We wish you all happy buying
but please ensure you get all document and invoices with today's date.
Any vehicles without proof of the purchase being made before 1st April
will not be registered, making the vehicle useless for anyone.
